Discover the Charm of Cape Coral’s Burrowing Owls!

Imagine stepping into a sunlit Florida morning and coming face-to-face with one of nature’s most endearing residents: the Burrowing Owl. Standing only about ten inches tall, these wide-eyed, long-legged owls captivate everyone they meet with their quirky personalities and curious gazes. Join us on a guided tour through Cape Coral, home to the largest population of these charming little owls in the world, and experience an up-close look at their fascinating world.

Our tours are designed for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone with a sense of wonder. You’ll learn about the owls’ unique underground homes, their playful antics, and the important role they play in the local ecosystem. Whether it’s watching a parent peek out of a sandy burrow or catching a young fledgling practicing its first flights, every outing offers a new and delightful glimpse into their daily lives.

More than just a wildlife tour, this is your chance to connect with a species whose story of survival and adaptation is as inspiring as it is adorable. Come see why Cape Coral’s Burrowing Owls have captured the hearts of visitors from around the world—and create unforgettable memories with these feathered locals!

Private tours to see the Burrowing Owls live run throughout the year as they don’t migrate. Summers are not the best time to see them as it gets really hot early in the morning and the owls often hide to get out of the sun. Tours last about 2 hours and are very handicap-friendly as there is minimal walking involved. We can visit sites the do not require that we get out of the car. We visit about 10 different burrow sites, and there is plenty of time to take photos.

We are often about 30 feet from the burrows, so plan your camera lenses accordingly.

Tours usually start at 8:00 am.  Most visitors are passing through, on their way to or from the airport, or have limited time to see the owls.  Since these tours are private, start times are very flexible and can even start at sunrise or sunset for avid photographers.

It is suggested that you wear closed-toe shoes, as we may encounter fire ants. This is rare, but if the situation warrants it, we may get off the beaten track a little bit.

The cost of the tour is $50.00 for a single person. If there are 2 or more people in the party, the cost is $40.00 per person. Credit cards cannot always be accepted as there is not always Internet available. For tour groups of 6 or more people, such as photography clubs, the cost is $25.00 per person. A box lunch can be provided for an additional charge.

Children under the age of 17 are free of charge, and there is no charge if no owls are seen. I have been conducting tours for quite a few years, and I have a 100% success rate, but since these are wild animals, I cannot guarantee the sightings.

Unless there is a severe storm or hurricane, the trip can go on even from the confines of a car. Light rain and drizzle is not a deterrent and people have taken some pretty cool photos of the owls having a bad hair day! Trips that are cancelled due to weather can usually be rescheduled.
